Μπούρτζι · Φρούριο Μπούρτζι
The Bourtzi is a Venetian fortress on a small islet at the entrance to Nafplio's harbour in Argolis, Peloponnese, reached by boat.
Why go
The Bourtzi is a fortress built on the islet of Agioi Theodoroi during the first period of Venetian rule; its website says it first took the name Castel Pasqualigo from Vittore Pasqualigo, then commander of Nauplion. Visit Greece says it later served as a prison and, for a time in the 20th century, as a hotel. The fortress's website, run by the Hellenic Public Properties Company, says access is by boat for a fee and that an exhibition space of the Argolis antiquities authority and an ODAP museum shop operate inside. This record is the fortress on the islet, not the boat or its landing point in the harbour.
