The Cappella Palatina is the chapel of the Royal Palace in Palermo, Sicily, dedicated to Saint Peter, with Byzantine mosaics in its presbytery.

Why go

The Cappella Palatina is the chapel inside the Royal Palace (Palazzo Reale) in Palermo, dedicated to Saint Peter; the Fondazione Federico II says it was planned after Roger II's coronation in 1130 and that Byzantine artists made the presbytery mosaics. It is also a parish church, San Pietro Apostolo, whose own site directs tourist visitors to the Fondazione Federico II for visiting times, prices and tickets. The Fondazione's visit page sells a ticket for the palace's monumental complex that includes the chapel, and warns that the palace, as seat of the Sicilian Parliament, and the chapel may close fully or partly, or change hours, without notice for institutional or religious reasons. The parish site says visitors must cover their shoulders and knees. This record is the chapel, not the palace around it.
