Why go

Segesta is the archaeological site of an ancient city of the Elymians in the comune of Calatafimi-Segesta, in the province of Trapani, managed by the Parco Archeologico di Segesta of the Regione Siciliana. The park's history page names the theatre, the temple and the sanctuary of Contrada Mango as the most significant remains, with the city walls and the Porta di Valle, residential quarters and medieval remains including walls, a castle and a mosque. It says the theatre, built either around the middle of the 4th century or in the 2nd century BC, stands in the summit area of Monte Barbaro and is still used from time to time for theatre performances, while the Doric temple stands outside the ancient town on a hill, and its unusual form is debated by scholars. The park's home page links to online ticket sales through CoopCulture and gives CoopCulture as the ticket-office contact. The other archaeological areas the park manages in the province of Trapani are not part of this record.
