Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre

หอศิลปวัฒนธรรมเมืองเชียงใหม่

The Chiang Mai City Arts and Cultural Centre is a museum of Chiang Mai's history run by the Chiang Mai Municipality, on Prapokklao Road in Si Phum subdistrict.

Why go

The centre's own page, part of the Chiang Mai Municipality's City Heritage Centre, says it was created to help local people understand the city's historical importance, with a permanent exhibition in 15 rooms tracing the region and the city from prehistory to the present. The national tourism directory says the building dates from 1924 (BE 2467), served as the Monthon Phayap government hall and the Chiang Mai provincial hall, and stands where the city pillar was before it moved to Wat Chedi Luang, and that at the end of 1997 the municipality asked to renovate it as the arts and cultural centre. The heritage centre's site presents it with the Chiang Mai Historical Centre behind it and the Lanna Folklife Centre, and publishes its ticket details there. This record is the museum in that building; the Three Kings Monument is a separate subject.
