Chiang Mai National Museum is the Fine Arts Department's national museum on the Chiang Mai-Lampang Superhighway in Chang Phueak subdistrict, Mueang Chiang Mai District.
Why go
The Fine Arts Department's page says the museum opened to the public in 1973 to display antiquities and art objects from the eight provinces of the upper north, the region once called Lanna. It says the building was extended between 1996 and 1999, with a permanent exhibition covering geography and geology, prehistory, history, ethnology and Lanna art, and that the permanent exhibition was renovated again between 2013 and 2016. The museum works under the department's 7th Regional Office in Chiang Mai, and Wikidata counts it among the National Museums of Thailand. This record is the museum.
