Why go

The Cinque Terre National Park is a protected area in the province of La Spezia, Liguria, which the park authority says was established in 1999 and covers 3,868 hectares with five villages: Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza and Monterosso al Mare. The park authority describes a landscape of terraced slopes held up by dry-stone walls; Italy's tourism portal says the Cinque Terre, together with Porto Venere and the islands of Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, are on the UNESCO World Heritage List, a designation separate from the park itself. The park's site says its Cinque Terre Card combines access to the trails with mobility and other services, and it publishes a trail network page with the status of each path. This record is the park as an area: its pin is a point inside the park, not a village, station, entrance or trailhead.
