The Pisa Baptistery is the round baptistery of San Giovanni on Pisa's Piazza del Duomo, founded in 1152 opposite the cathedral and run by the Opera della Primaziale Pisana.

Why go

This record is the baptistery on Pisa's Piazza del Duomo, not the cathedral, the Leaning Tower or the square, and not the baptisteries of Florence or Siena. The Opera della Primaziale Pisana, which runs the square's monuments, says it was founded on 15 August 1152, that Diotisalvi directed the first building phase, and that Nicola Pisano, working with his son Giovanni, reshaped it and made its pulpit in 1260. The Opera's page says the baptism sacrament is still administered there and that staff give a short demonstration of the building's acoustics every thirty minutes. Its ticket advice page gives one set of ticket conditions for the Baptistery, the Camposanto, the Sinopie Museum and the Opera del Duomo Museum, and its safety notes say large luggage and suitcases are not allowed.
