Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds

Dokumentationszentrum Reichsparteitagsgelände

The Documentation Center Nazi Party Rally Grounds is the Nuremberg Municipal Museums' documentation centre on the Nazi Party rallies, in the northern wing of the unfinished Congress Hall on the former rally grounds in south-east Nuremberg.

Why go

The Nuremberg Municipal Museums say the Nazis held their party rallies in Nuremberg from 1933 to 1938, and that the remains of the buildings constructed for them still testify to the staging of these propaganda spectacles. The Documentation Center opened on 4 November 2001 in the northern front wing of the Congress Hall, where architect Günther Domenig's design drives a glass passageway diagonally through the Nazi building; its first permanent exhibition closed in early 2021 for an expansion into the North Wing. The museum's page says the new permanent exhibition 'Nuremberg and the Nazi Party Rallies' is now open, making the whole Documentation Center publicly accessible for the first time since 2020. On the grounds themselves, which the museum gives as four square kilometres, panels in German and English at 23 points explain the history of each location; the museum said on 9 October 2026 that the Zeppelin Grandstand and Zeppelin Field are closed for major structural work. This record is the documentation centre, not the rally grounds or the Congress Hall as a whole.
