Nuremberg Castle

Kaiserburg Nürnberg · Nürnberger Burg

Nuremberg Castle is the medieval castle complex on the castle rock in Nuremberg, whose Imperial Castle (Kaiserburg) is run by the Bavarian Palace Department as a museum site.

Why go

The Bavarian Palace Department (Bayerische Schlösserverwaltung), which runs the Kaiserburg, says the Hohenstaufen rulers built an extensive palace complex on the castle rock, with a burgrave residing in its front part, the Burggrafenburg, and that the city of Nuremberg owned the whole castle from 1427. Its pages say the tour of the Palas starts in the Knights' Hall and leads into the double chapel and the upper-floor rooms with the permanent exhibition 'Kaiser – Reich – Stadt', ending in the Kemenate, where the Germanisches Nationalmuseum runs the Kaiserburg Museum. The admission page lists one overall ticket for the Palas with the double chapel and Kaiserburg Museum, the Deep Well and the Sinwell Tower, as well as tickets for parts. It says tickets are sold at the cash desk in the outer castle courtyard and cannot be ordered online, and that children under 14 are admitted only with an accompanying adult. This record is the castle complex, not the Kaiserburg Museum as a collection.
