Why go

Nuremberg's Convention and Tourist Office says the Germanisches Nationalmuseum was founded in 1852, has been the official national museum of German art and culture since 1871, and is a member of the Leibniz Association. It says the collections run from prehistory to the present, with works by Albrecht Dürer, Veit Stoss and Rembrandt among them, and that the former Carthusian monastery is part of the museum's structure, which combines historic architecture with modern buildings including a glass entrance building. The same page says reservation is requested for guided group tours. The Bavarian Palace Department says the museum also runs the Kaiserburg Museum in the Kemenate of Nuremberg Castle. This record is the museum, not the Carthusian monastery as a separate building.
