Dom Luís I Bridge
Ponte Luís I
The Dom Luís I Bridge (Ponte Luís I) is a two-deck iron arch bridge over the Douro between Porto and Vila Nova de Gaia.
Why go
Visit Porto, the Porto city council's tourism site, says the bridge was designed by the engineer Théophile Seyrig, a disciple of Eiffel, was inaugurated in 1886 and is made of two overlapping iron decks. It says the upper deck is now used by Greater Porto's metro, connecting the Cathedral area in Porto with Jardim do Morro and Avenida da República in Vila Nova de Gaia. Wikidata places the bridge in a parish on each bank, one in Porto and one in Vila Nova de Gaia. How pedestrians use each deck is not recorded here.
