Porto Cathedral
Sé do Porto
Porto Cathedral (Sé do Porto) is the Catholic cathedral of Porto, on the Terreiro da Sé in the city's historic centre.
Why go
Porto Cathedral is the cathedral of the Diocese of Porto, whose chapter (the Cabido) is the contact on the diocese's cathedral page. That page describes a Romanesque-Gothic building of the 12th and 13th centuries, much remodelled in the Baroque period, whose interior still has the look of a fortress-church with battlements; a Gothic cloister begun at the end of the 14th century with 18th-century azulejo panels; and the adjoining Casa do Cabido, where religious sculpture and the cathedral treasury are shown. The diocese page gives one schedule for the church, museum and cloister and says school visits must be booked with, and accompanied by, the cathedral's Educational Service. Visit Porto's page for the cathedral lists a ticket covering the cathedral, cloisters, museum and tower. The diocese page also lists Mass at the cathedral. This record is the cathedral, not the Terreiro da Sé in front of it.
