Hadrian's Villa
Villa Adriana
Hadrian's Villa (Villa Adriana) is the archaeological site of the Roman emperor Hadrian's residence in Tivoli, Lazio.
Why go
Hadrian's Villa is the excavated residence that the emperor Hadrian built at Tivoli, according to Rome's official tourism site, which describes thermal baths, the Canopus nymphaeum with a museum of finds nearby, quarters for the imperial family, slaves and the Praetorian Guard, and the circular Maritime Theatre ringed by a water channel. The two tourism sources date it differently: Rome's tourism site says around 126 AD, Italy's national tourism site says it was built for Hadrian in 117 AD. The national site says it was named a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It is in Tivoli, not in Rome, and is a separate place from Villa d'Este. The information site Rome's tourism office names for the villa could not be opened for this record, so entry rules are not given here.
