Palazzo Massimo alle Terme is one of the seats of the Museo Nazionale Romano in Rome, a museum in a nineteenth-century palace showing Roman sculpture, frescoes, mosaics and coins.

Why go

This record is the Palazzo Massimo seat of the Museo Nazionale Romano, not the museum's other seats at the Baths of Diocletian, Palazzo Altemps or the Crypta Balbi. The museum's page for the seat says the palace was built between 1883 and 1887 as a Jesuit college, bought by the State in 1981 to become a seat of the museum and opened to the public in 1998. The same page says the visit opens with portraits and Greek originals, the first floor continues with imperial portraits and Roman copies of Greek sculpture, the second floor is given over to wall paintings, stuccoes and mosaics, and the basement shows a selection from the museum's coin collection. The museum's ticket page says a single ticket covers all its seats, with one entry to each within a week of the first visit, and that tickets bought on any official channel are not refundable. Its visit page says the museum does not run guided tours and that bulky backpacks, trolleys and umbrellas are not allowed in its seats.
