Why go

Hochosterwitz Castle is in the municipality of Sankt Georgen am Längsee in Carinthia, with its postal address in Launsdorf. The castle's own site says visitors can climb up through the 14 castle gates, whose names and dates between 1570 and 1583 it lists, or ride the Fürst-Max-Bahn inclined lift, and that its armoury, weapons collection and Renaissance pictures tell the castle's history. A marble plaque of 1576 in the upper courtyard, quoted on the site, records that Georg Khevenhüller fortified the castle at his own expense and ordered that it should never leave his family. The site prohibits drone flights on and above the castle. The castle is not in Klagenfurt, which is a base for it.
