Imperial Treasury Vienna

Kaiserliche Schatzkammer Wien

The Imperial Treasury (Kaiserliche Schatzkammer Wien) is the museum of the Habsburg secular and ecclesiastical treasuries in the Schweizerhof of the Vienna Hofburg, run by the KHM-Museumsverband.

Why go

The Imperial Treasury in the Schweizerhof of the Vienna Hofburg is one of the houses of the KHM-Museumsverband, which also runs the Kunsthistorisches Museum. Its collection pages describe two collections: the Secular Treasury, with the insignia and jewels of the Holy Roman Empire, including the Imperial Crown and the Holy Lance, the crown of Emperor Rudolf II that later became the crown of the Austrian Empire, and the treasures of the Order of the Golden Fleece; and the Ecclesiastical Treasury, on relics, Habsburg piety and the Counter-Reformation. The treasury's FAQ says tickets are valid for a specific date and time, chosen when buying online or at the cash desk subject to availability, and that there is no time limit on the visit once inside. This record is the museum, not the Hofburg complex or the Swiss Wing building that houses it.
