Kanchanaburi War Cemetery
สุสานทหารสัมพันธมิตรดอนรัก
Kanchanaburi War Cemetery (Don Rak) is a cemetery for Allied prisoners of war who died building the Thailand–Burma railway, beside Saeng Chuto Road (Highway 323) in Ban Nuea subdistrict, Mueang Kanchanaburi District.
Why go
Kanchanaburi Town Municipality says the cemetery was established in 1945, after the Second World War, on about 17 rai of land given by local people, for some of the prisoners of war who died building the railway, and that it is one of several places where those who died on the railway are buried. It says local people call it the English cemetery (Pa-cha Angrit, as the Thailand–Burma Railway Centre writes it), although prisoners of other nations, among them American, Dutch and Australian, are buried there too. The Thailand–Burma Railway Centre says it stands on the western side of the cemetery. Wikidata records it as a cemetery maintained by the Commonwealth War Graves Commission. This record is the cemetery at Don Rak, not Chungkai War Cemetery.
