Thailand–Burma Railway Centre
The Thailand–Burma Railway Centre is a museum, information and research centre on the history of the Thailand–Burma railway, on Jaokannun Road beside Kanchanaburi War Cemetery, in Ban Nuea, Mueang Kanchanaburi District.
Why go
The Centre describes itself as an interactive museum, information and research facility dedicated to the history of the Thailand–Burma Railway, which it says ran 415 km from Ban Pong in Thailand to Thanbyuzayat in Burma and was built by the Imperial Japanese Army with Allied prisoners of war and impressed Asian labourers. Its facilities page describes eight main galleries, including the railway's planning and construction, living conditions, medical aspects, a summary of deaths and the period after the war. Its mission page says it was established to interpret the railway's story in a fair, balanced and non-partisan way and to explain the significance of Kanchanaburi's two military cemeteries; its contact page gives the address of T.B.R.C. Co., Ltd on Jaokannun Road. The visitor page asks former prisoners of war and Asian labourers who worked on the railway, or their visiting families, to identify themselves to the management on arrival. The site says it was last updated on 31 October 2022.
