Mueang Sing Historical Park
อุทยานประวัติศาสตร์เมืองสิงห์
Mueang Sing Historical Park is the Fine Arts Department's park at the ancient walled town of Mueang Sing, with a Khmer-style sanctuary at its centre, in Sing subdistrict, Sai Yok District, Kanchanaburi Province.
Why go
The Fine Arts Department describes a square town of about one square kilometre enclosed by a moat, an earth bank and a laterite wall, with a sanctuary in the Khmer Bayon style at its centre, which it dates to around the Buddhist 18th century, about the reign of Jayavarman VII. It says burials of about 2,000 years ago were excavated beside the Khwae Noi River outside the southern wall. The Department registered Mueang Sing as a national monument in the Royal Gazette in March 1936 (B.E. 2478), fixed its boundary of 718 rai in 1960, and planned it as the first historical park it would open officially, in 1987. This record is the historical park as a whole.
