Klewer Market
Pasar Klewer
Pasar Klewer (Klewer Market) is the textile and batik market beside the Kasunanan palace in Surakarta.
Why go
Klewer Market is a textile market next to the Surakarta (Kasunanan) palace, which the Central Java provincial tourism office calls the city's textile-centre market. The office's page says the name comes from the Javanese for clothes that hang down, after traders who carried batik cloth over their shoulders, and that the government built a permanent multi-storey market building, inaugurated in 1970. It describes an old building and a new building with lifts. This record is the market building, not the Kraton next to it.
