Pura Mangkunegaran is the palace of the Mangkunegaran princes on Jalan Ronggowarsito in Keprabon, Banjarsari, Surakarta, founded in 1757 by Raden Mas Said, later Mangkoenagoro I.
Why go
Pura Mangkunegaran is the palace of the Mangkunegaran, a principality founded in 1757 by Raden Mas Said, later K.G.P.A.A. Mangkoenagoro I; its official site gives the address as Jalan Ronggowarsito, Keprabon, Banjarsari, Surakarta, and names Mangkoenagoro X as its head since 2022. The palace's tourism reservation page sells tickets for a chosen date and tour session, and its terms say that guests must be accompanied by a Mangkunegaran guide (juru cerita) throughout the tour and must arrive 15 minutes before the session. The same terms ask for modest dress and list, among other rules, no shorts or short skirts, no batik with parang or lereng motifs, no head coverings or sunglasses, and no flip-flops. This record is the palace, not the Puro Mangkunegaran Museum as a separate institution and not the Kasunanan palace (Kraton Surakarta).
