Kunsthaus Zürich

Kunsthaus Zürich is an art museum at Heimplatz in Zurich's Old Town, overseen by the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft art association, in its historic building and the David Chipperfield extension that opened in autumn 2021.

Why go

The Kunsthaus says it has been overseen since 1787 by the Zürcher Kunstgesellschaft, an art association whose board appoints the museum's director, and its history page dates the opening of the Kunsthaus to 17 April 1910, with extensions by Karl Moser in 1925, a large exhibition gallery opened in 1958 and an extension by Erwin Müller in 1976. Its extension page says David Chipperfield's building opened in autumn 2021, with a focus on art of the 1960s and later, the Emil Bührle Collection and medium-sized temporary exhibitions. The museum's visitor FAQ describes separate tickets for the collection with small exhibitions and for a major exhibition, says printed maps are available at the ticket desks in both the Moser and Chipperfield buildings, and says independent groups and school classes must announce their visit in advance. Its house rules allow photography for private use without flash, tripod or selfie stick, except where a work is marked. This record is the museum (Wikidata Q685038) across both buildings, not its collection item.
