Why go

The Lauterbrunnen Valley is a trough valley in the Bernese Oberland; this record is the valley, not the municipality of Lauterbrunnen and not its individual waterfalls, which are separate records. Lauterbrunnen Tourism says the village of Lauterbrunnen lies in a trough valley between enormous rock walls and peaks, that 72 waterfalls plunge over the rock walls into the valley, and that the place name probably comes from the more than seventy waterfalls in the Lauterbrunnental. Its home page places Stechelberg and the Trümmelbach Falls up the valley from Lauterbrunnen, along the Weisse Lütschine. The tourism office says the political municipality of Lauterbrunnen unites Wengen, Mürren, Lauterbrunnen, Gimmelwald and Stechelberg, with Isenfluh since 1973. The record's point is approximate, at the village end of the valley, and is not a place to navigate to.
