Staubbach Falls

Staubbachfall

The Staubbach Falls are a waterfall of around 297 metres that drops freely from the rock walls into the valley at the village of Lauterbrunnen in the Bernese Oberland.

Why go

The Staubbach Falls drop from the cliff face above the village of Lauterbrunnen; this record is the waterfall, not the Lauterbrunnen Valley. Lauterbrunnen Tourism gives a fall height of around 297 metres and says the water falls freely from the steep rock walls into the valley and turns to fine spray, which gave the fall its name. The tourism office says Johann Wolfgang von Goethe was inspired by the scene, and its history page links the fall to his poem 'Gesang der Geister über den Wassern'. It says a path leads to the foot of the fall and that this path is open only in summer. The fall is in the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, not Interlaken, which XTOUR treats as a travel base.
