Trümmelbach Falls

Trümmelbachfälle

The Trümmelbach Falls are ten glacier-fed waterfalls inside the mountain in the Lauterbrunnen Valley, made accessible by a tunnel lift.

Why go

The Trümmelbach Falls are ten glacial waterfalls inside the mountain in the Lauterbrunnen Valley; this record is the falls, not the tunnel lift that gives access to them. The operator says the Trümmelbach drains the glacier walls of the Eiger, Mönch and Jungfrau from a catchment of 24 square kilometres, about half of it covered with snow and ice, and that the amount of water in the falls varies greatly. It says all the falls except the lowest were hidden inside the mountain until they were first made accessible in 1877, while Lauterbrunnen Tourism's history page dates the opening of the first two falls to 1886. The operator's site says babies and small children up to the age of 4 and dogs are not allowed in the facility for safety reasons. The falls are in the municipality of Lauterbrunnen, not Interlaken.
