Why go
This record is the museum, not the building item Wikidata keeps separately. The museum's chronology says it grew out of the New Gallery, founded in 1946 as a loan museum for Wolfgang Gurlitt's private collection, from which the City of Linz bought works in 1953 to found the New Gallery of the City of Linz as a city museum for modern art; the Lentos building, designed by the Zurich architects Weber & Hofer and built by the City of Linz, opened on the Danube on 18 May 2003. The same page says the Linz entrepreneur Erwin Hauser gave his collection of Austrian art from 1850 to the present to the city and the museum in 2024, initially as a permanent loan. The museum's audio guide to the collection covers works by artists such as Gustav Klimt, Oskar Kokoschka, Maria Lassnig, Gabriele Münter, Egon Schiele, Andy Warhol and VALIE EXPORT. Its visit page offers tickets in the museum's online webshop and says animals are not allowed in the museum, except assistance dogs registered in a disability ID card.
