Pöstlingberg Basilica
Pöstlingbergkirche · Wallfahrtsbasilika Pöstlingberg
The Pöstlingberg Basilica is the Catholic pilgrimage and parish church on the Pöstlingberg in Linz, dedicated to the Seven Sorrows of Mary and raised to a minor basilica in 1964.
Why go
This record is the church, not the Pöstlingberg hill, the Pöstlingbergbahn tram or the Grottenbahn. The pilgrimage page of its parish (in German) says the pilgrimage grew from the private devotion of a simple man, that fires in 1919 and 1963 above all threatened the church, that it was restored with the help of many donors, most recently with the renovation of the towers in 2003, and that a papal brief of Paul VI raised the pilgrimage and parish church to a minor basilica on 11 June 1964. The page is signed by the Oblates of St Francis de Sales at Pöstlingberg; the diocese's parish site lists the parish community Urfahr-Pöstlingberg, within the parish of Urfahr – St. Junia, at Am Pöstlingberg 1.
