New Cathedral Linz
Mariendom · Mariä-Empfängnis-Dom
The New Cathedral (Mariendom) is the neo-Gothic Catholic cathedral of the Diocese of Linz, on the Domplatz in Linz.
Why go
This record is the Mariendom, not the Old Cathedral (Alter Dom). The cathedral's own pages (in German) describe it as both the bishop's church and a parish church, name Bishop Franz Josef Rudigier as the founding father of its construction, and say the building was financed by donations and private gifts. They say sightseeing is not possible during services and events. Its tour pages give the DomCenter on the Domplatz as the meeting point for guided tours, including a tower climb of 395 steps to the gallery at 68 metres, and say a tour at a time of your choice can be booked on request with the DomCenter, with a minimum of, in principle, eight participants.
