La Lonja de la Seda (Llotja de la Seda) is a late-Gothic former merchants' exchange in the centre of Valencia, built between the 15th and 16th centuries.

Why go

La Lonja de la Seda is a Gothic merchants' exchange in Valencia's historic centre; Visit València says it was built between the 15th and 16th centuries as the setting for transactions, pacts and meetings. The tourism board describes its Columned Hall with helical stone columns, the chapel, the tower, the Consulate of the Sea pavilion and the Orange Tree Courtyard, and says the tower, with Pere Compte's spiral staircase, opens to visitors only on special occasions. Visit València says UNESCO inscribed the Lonja on the World Heritage List in 1996; that inscription is a designation, and this record is the building. Valencia City Council's culture portal lists 'La Lonja y Consulado del Mar' under its museums and monuments and carries the council's closure notices and ticket sales, so check it for visiting times before you go.
