Why go
La Boqueria, also called the Mercat de Sant Josep, is a municipal food market hall on La Rambla, in the El Raval neighbourhood of Ciutat Vella; this record is the market hall, not La Rambla. The Barcelona Municipal Markets Institute's page for the market says it was first mentioned in the 13th century but that its building was not constructed until the 19th century, on the site of the former convent of Sant Josep, which is why it is also called the Mercat de Sant Josep. The same page lists it as a publicly owned market with an information point, a cookery classroom and online sales with home delivery. Opening days and hours are set by the market and its stalls, so check the market's own website before you go.
