Monte San Salvatore

Monte San Salvatore

Monte San Salvatore is a 912-metre mountain in Lugano's Pazzallo quarter, according to Wikidata, with a funicular to its summit from Paradiso.

Why go

Monte San Salvatore is a mountain above Lugano; Wikidata places it in the municipality of Lugano, at the quarter of Pazzallo, and gives its height as 912 metres. Lugano Region, the regional tourism board, says the funicular to the summit starts in Paradiso and has run since 1890, and lists the Funicolare Monte San Salvatore SA as its contact. On the summit the board describes the church of the same name, the Capodoro terrace, a nature path along the ridge and the San Salvatore Museum, opened in 1999 in a former hospice built at the end of the 17th century, which it says the funicular company set up with the Archconfraternity of Good Death and Prayer. It names hiking trails down to Ciona (Carona) and to Pazzallo and Paradiso, and a via ferrata that it describes for experienced climbers with the right equipment. This record is the mountain, not the funicular or the church; the funicular company's own site did not answer this session, so its timetables and fares are not carried here.
