Montjuïc Castle
Castell de Montjuïc · Castillo de Montjuïc
Montjuïc Castle is the bastioned fortress on Montjuïc hill in Barcelona, owned by Barcelona City Council, which runs its visitor website.
Why go
Montjuïc Castle is the fortress on Montjuïc hill; the hill itself and its cable car are separate subjects. Barcelona City Council's castle website says the fortress as it is today is largely the result of alterations planned by the military engineer Juan Martín Cermeño in 1751 and carried out between 1753 and 1779, on an irregular trapezoidal plan with four bastions, a moat and a covered way, and that it was declared a Cultural Asset of National Interest in 1988. Its planning page says the castle sells tickets only online through its own website and has no agreements with third parties to sell them, and that the admission ticket covers both the permanent and the temporary exhibitions. The same page also offers guided tours.
