The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya (MNAC) is Catalonia's national art museum, housed in the Palau Nacional on Montjuïc in Barcelona.
Why go
The Museu Nacional d'Art de Catalunya is an art museum in the Palau Nacional on Montjuïc; this record is the museum, not the palace building. The museum's site says the Palau Nacional was built for the International Exposition of 1929, that the museum opened there in 1934 as the Museu d'Art de Catalunya with the medieval collection, and that the presentation of the collection was extended from 1995 until modern art was integrated in 2004. It describes collections of Romanesque mural painting, Gothic art, Renaissance and Baroque painting, Catalan modernisme and photography. Its organisation page says the museum is a consortium formed by the Generalitat de Catalunya, Barcelona City Council and, since 2005, the Spanish State administration. The museum's site sells tickets online.
