Murano Glass Museum

Museo del Vetro

The Murano Glass Museum (Museo del Vetro) is a civic museum of the history of glass and Murano glassmaking in Palazzo Giustinian on the island of Murano, part of the municipality of Venice.

Why go

The Murano Glass Museum is a museum of the history of glass and of Murano glass art, on the island of Murano in the Venetian Lagoon; it is run by the Fondazione Musei Civici di Venezia (MUVE) and is not in Venice's historic centre. The museum's history page says it occupies the former residence of the bishops of Torcello, that the museum and archive were founded in 1861 when the palace was Murano's town hall, and that it became one of the Venice Civic Museums after the Murano municipality was abolished and annexed to Venice in 1923. Its tickets page says that, of the reduced tickets, only those for children aged 6 to 14, students aged 15 to 25 and visitors over 65 can be booked online, and that other reduced and free tickets are issued at the ticket office on presentation of the required documents. The same page lists an Island Museums ticket shared with the Burano Lace Museum and the Torcello Museum.
