Rialto Bridge
Ponte di Rialto
The Rialto Bridge (Ponte di Rialto) is a single-arch bridge across the Grand Canal in Venice, one of the four bridges that cross the canal.
Why go
The Rialto Bridge is one of the four bridges over Venice's Grand Canal; this record is the bridge itself. Italy's national tourism board says it replaced an earlier wooden bridge, was designed by Antonio da Ponte and built between 1588 and 1591, and was the only crossing between the two banks of the Grand Canal until 1854. The same page describes a single arch of over 28 metres with shops along both sides, originally occupied mostly by goldsmiths, jewellers and craftsmen. The bridge has no operator website, and no access rules are stated here.
