Museo Sorolla

The Museo Sorolla is the house museum of the painter Joaquín Sorolla, in the house and studios he built in 1911 on Paseo del General Martínez Campos in Madrid.

Why go

The museum's history page says Sorolla's widow, Clotilde García del Castillo, left the house and her collections to the Spanish State in her 1925 will so that a museum would be created in her husband's memory, that the museum opened in 1932, and that since 1993 it has been a state-owned museum managed directly by the Ministry of Culture. Its building page says the house was a personal project in which Sorolla was directly involved, with three adjoining studios and a garden whose layout and plants he chose. The museum's hours page, read on 11 October 2026, says that from 15 October 2026 the visit is limited to the new extension building, while the house museum stays temporarily closed for rehabilitation works; check the museum's site for when the house reopens.
