Museum of Prehistoric Thera

Μουσείο Προϊστορικής Θήρας

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera in Fira, Santorini, shows finds from the island's prehistory, mostly from the Bronze Age town at Akrotiri, including its wall paintings.

Why go

The Museum of Prehistoric Thera is the archaeological museum in Fira for the prehistoric period of Santorini; it is a separate record from the Akrotiri site whose finds it shows. The Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades says it has two exhibitions: the first, opened in 2000, presents the island's prehistory up to the heyday of the city at Akrotiri, and the second, opened in 2021, is devoted to the wall paintings of Akrotiri. Hellenic Heritage, the Ministry of Culture's visitor site, says that exhibition shows 28 wall paintings from the buildings known as the West House and Xeste 3. Its official ticket store sells timed-entry tickets for the museum and says they are valid for a single entry on the date and time chosen and are not refundable.
