Why go

This record is the ruined castle at the northwestern tip of Thera (Santorini), in Oia, which the Ephorate of Antiquities of the Cyclades calls the Castle of Agios Nikolaos or of Epano Meria and Wikidata the Citadel of Oia. The Ephorate says it was one of five fortified kastelia that protected the island from the first period of Frankish rule in the 13th and 14th centuries, that it defended three harbours, and that the D'Argentas family held it until 1577. It says the earthquake of 1956 turned the castle into a ruin and that the ruins have been declared a historical site.
