Museum Rietberg

The Museum Rietberg is the City of Zurich's museum for the arts of Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania, in 19th-century villas and an underground extension at Gablerstrasse 15 in Zurich.

Why go

The museum's about page says it is administered by the City of Zurich, focuses on the traditional and contemporary arts and cultures of Asia, Africa, the Americas and Oceania, and shows most of its objects either in its galleries or in its open storeroom. It says Zurich voters approved converting the Villa Wesendonck into a museum in 1949, and that the museum opened in 1952 to house the collection Baron Eduard von der Heydt had promised to the city. An underground extension, entered through a glass pavilion called the Emerald, opened on 18 February 2007, and the complex consists of three 19th-century villas, a coach house and the extension. The museum's tickets page sells separate tickets for a special exhibition and for the collections, with online reservation, and its information page asks visitors to use public transport because there is no public parking at the museum. This record is the museum, not the park around it and not the fountain item of the same name.
