Phuket Thai Hua Museum

พิพิธภัณฑ์ภูเก็ตไทยหัว

The Phuket Thai Hua Museum is a museum of Phuket's history and its Hokkien Chinese community, in a Sino-Portuguese building built in 1934 for a Chinese-language school, on Krabi Road in Phuket Town.

Why go

The Phuket Thai Hua Museum is on Krabi Road in Phuket's old town, in the building of the Phuket Thai Hua school, which Phuket City Municipality describes as the first Chinese-language school in Phuket province, built in 1934. The municipality says descendants of the Hokkien Chinese who studied there created the museum to tell Phuket's history, that the restored building is in Sino-Portuguese style, that the upper floor is still used for Chinese classes, and that the exhibition below has 13 sections on the Hokkien migration to Phuket, beliefs, daily life, customs, arts and the history of the school. TAT's newsroom likewise describes a renovated Sino-Portuguese building whose exhibits tell the story of the Chinese immigrants who made the island their home. The museum is also used for cultural events such as the Moon Festival and Baba weddings, per the municipality. This record is the museum, not the Peranakannitat Museum nearby.
