Why go

Pompeii is the archaeological site of the Roman city buried in the eruption of AD 79, in the comune of Pompei rather than in Naples. It is run by the Archaeological Park of Pompeii, which its own about-us page describes as a Ministry of Culture body with special autonomy whose remit also covers Oplontis, Stabiae and Boscoreale; the same page says Herculaneum became a separate park in 2017. The park's visiting page says the site is entered with a ticket through three entrances: Porta Marina Superiore, Porta Marina Inferiore (also called Piazza Esedra) and Piazza Anfiteatro. Its tickets page says tickets for Pompeii are personal, that a daily limit of 20,000 entries applies, that a ticket is valid for one entry with no exit and re-entry, and it points online buyers to Vivaticket. This record's map point stands for the whole excavated area and is not one of the entrances.
