Quinta da Regaleira
Quinta da Regaleira is an estate with a palace and gardens on the outskirts of Sintra's historic centre, designed and built in the late 1800s for António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro with the Italian architect Luigi Manini.
Why go
Quinta da Regaleira is the estate at the edge of Sintra's historic centre that its official site says was designed and built in the late 1800s for its principal owner, António Augusto de Carvalho Monteiro (1848-1920), with the Italian architect and scenographer Luigi Manini (1848-1936); Visit Lisboa dates the works to 1898-1910. The estate has belonged to Sintra Town Council since 1996 and has been managed since 1997 by the Fundação Cultursintra, a public foundation, not by Parques de Sintra. The official site says only the main floor of the Regaleira Palace is on the visiting circuit, that entry is allowed up to one hour after the time on the ticket, and that its only official online ticket office is regaleira.byblueticket.pt. This record covers the whole estate, including the Initiatic Well shown on the official site.
