Royal Palace of Caserta

Reggia di Caserta

The Reggia di Caserta is the 18th-century Bourbon royal palace designed by Luigi Vanvitelli in Caserta, Campania, with its Royal Park and English Garden, run as a museum of national interest.

Why go

The Royal Palace of Caserta stands in the city of Caserta, not in Naples. Its official site says King Charles of Bourbon bought the Caserta estate in 1750 and laid the first stone of the palace, designed by Luigi Vanvitelli, on 20 January 1752, and that the Reggia di Caserta is a museum with its own autonomy that cares for the Palazzo Reale, the Royal Park, the English Garden and the Carolino Aqueduct. The site's tickets page says TicketOne is the only authorised online seller, that tickets can also be bought at the Reggia, and that the same ticket does not allow leaving and re-entering the museum. It adds that the park-only ticket sold when the English Garden is closed is available only at the ticket office in Piazza Carlo di Borbone. This record's map point is the palace; italia.it says the park extends for about three kilometres along a central avenue, and that area is not represented by the point.
