Why go

San Telmo Museoa (the San Telmo Museum) is San Sebastián's museum of Basque society and citizenship, on Plaza Zuloaga in the Old Town. The museum says it was inaugurated in 1902 and holds more than 55,500 pieces in its ethnography, fine arts, photography, archaeology and history collections. The Basque Government's tourism site says its old building was a Dominican monastery built in the 16th century, that the museum reopened in 2011 after a five-year restoration and extension, and that a new pavilion below Mount Urgull houses temporary exhibitions among other things. Opening days and hours are set by the museum, so check its site before you go.
