Sanssouci Park
Park Sanssouci
Sanssouci Park is the palace park of nearly 300 hectares in Potsdam around Sanssouci Palace and the New Palace, run by the Prussian Palaces and Gardens Foundation Berlin-Brandenburg (SPSG).
Why go
The SPSG, which runs Sanssouci Park in Potsdam, says it covers nearly 300 hectares crossed by an east-west axis of more than 2 kilometres and holds over 1,000 sculptures. It says Frederick the Great planned his palace with vineyard terraces in 1743, and that King Frederick William IV later expanded the garden between Sanssouci Palace and the New Palace, intertwining Frederick's French pleasure garden with a 19th-century landscaped park and buildings of Neoclassicism and German Romanticism; the park was added to UNESCO's World Heritage List in 1990. The palaces in the park, among them Sanssouci Palace and the New Palace, are separate records with their own tickets. This record is the park as a whole; its map point is the middle of a large area, not a gate.
