Schönbrunn Palace Park
Schlosspark Schönbrunn
Schönbrunn Palace Park is the Baroque park around Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna's Hietzing district, about 1.2 km from east to west, with the Gloriette on the hill behind the palace.
Why go
The park at Schönbrunn Palace, the palace's gardens page says, was opened to the public around 1779, extends 1.2 km from east to west and about one kilometre from north to south, and was put on the UNESCO World Heritage List together with the palace in 1996. The Austrian Federal Gardens (Österreichische Bundesgärten) list the Schönbrunn palace park among the seven former imperial Habsburg gardens in Vienna and Innsbruck that they manage and maintain. The palace's park tour describes the Great Parterre, the Neptune Fountain at the foot of the hill and the colonnaded Gloriette built on its crest to Hohenberg's designs in 1775. The gardens page says the Privy Garden, the Orangery Garden, the Maze, the zoo, the Palm House and the Desert House each need their own admission ticket. This record is the park, not the palace, the zoo or the Gloriette.
