Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art

Museu de Arte Contemporânea de Serralves

The Serralves Museum of Contemporary Art is the Serralves Foundation's museum, in a building by Álvaro Siza Vieira in the grounds of the Serralves Estate in Porto.

Why go

The Serralves Foundation says the framework for its Museum of Contemporary Art was laid when the foundation was created in 1989, that Álvaro Siza Vieira was commissioned in 1991 to design the museum in the grounds of the Serralves Estate, and that the museum opened on 6 June 1999. The museum shows the Serralves Collection and a changing programme of exhibitions, with cinema, dance, music and performance in its auditorium. The foundation's visit page lists a general ticket covering all of its spaces, among them the museum, the Álvaro Siza Wing, the park, the Treetop Walk, the Serralves Villa and the House of Cinema, alongside a park-only ticket, and says guided group visits need prior booking. This record is the museum; Serralves Park around it is a separate record.
