Sigmund Freud Museum

The Sigmund Freud Museum is the museum at Berggasse 19 in Vienna's Alsergrund district, in the flat and practice where Sigmund Freud lived and worked until he had to flee the Nazis in 1938.

Why go

The Sigmund Freud Museum occupies Berggasse 19 in Vienna's 9th district, where, its home page says, Sigmund Freud lived and worked for 47 years before he had to flee the Nazis in 1938. The museum says it was founded in 1971 and renovated and expanded in 2020, and that it shows all of the family's private rooms and the practices of Sigmund and Anna Freud, with permanent exhibitions on the development of psychoanalysis, the family's life and the history of the house, and a collection of conceptual art. Its about page says the Sigmund Freud Foundation has operated it since 2003. The visitor information page asks groups of more than 10 people to announce their visit by email in advance. This record is the museum, not the apartment building as a residence.
