Vanadzor Fine Arts Museum

Վանաձորի կերպարվեստի թանգարան · Vanadzor Museum of Fine Arts

The fine arts museum of Vanadzor, founded in 1974 as a branch of the National Gallery of Armenia and housed in a three-storey crescent-shaped building on the city's central roundabout.

Why go

More than 2,000 works make up the collection, most of them Armenian art from the 1960s to the 1980s, spanning painting, graphic work, sculpture and decorative-applied art. Displays are arranged in themed halls across the three floors. The crescent-shaped building, with more than 1,800 square metres of space, was itself added to Armenia's list of historical and cultural monuments in 2004. It is a good fit for travellers interested in late Soviet-period Armenian art who are already in Vanadzor; others may find it a modest detour.
