Getting Aroundin Kutaisi

How to get around Kutaisi, including public transport, taxis, walking, driving and common transport pitfalls.

Transport

Getting around Kutaisi

Kutaisi’s central historic area is compact and highly walkable. City buses, minibuses and taxis cover the wider urban area. Gelati, Motsameta, Sataplia, Prometheus Cave, Tskaltubo and the canyons require separate transport planning. Kutaisi International Airport is outside the city, and airport shuttle, bus, rail-transfer and taxi options should be checked against your actual flight schedule.

Problems worth knowing

01

Confusing the airport with the city

Kutaisi International Airport is not in central Kutaisi, and transfer time must be added separately.

02

Assuming nearby attractions are beside each other

Prometheus Cave, Sataplia, Gelati and Okatse sit in different directions and should not be treated as one compact attraction zone.

03

Ignoring weather-dependent access

Canyon routes and some natural attractions can restrict access after heavy rain or unsafe conditions.

04

Using a car unnecessarily in the center

For the historic core, walking is usually easier than dealing with parking and narrow streets.
